Single Sex Service Provision
Frontline Feminists Scotland demands that all candidates acknowledge:
-
that sex is immutable and gender, as a social construct, influences and controls our interaction with others from birth.
-
there is extensive research evidencing the above and that any attempt to distort the relationship between sex and gender purposefully reinforces misogyny and sexism. prioritising women’s safety in all their decisions is crucial – such as support and further develop protection services for women, including single sex violence against women services, the availability of toilet and changing facilities specifically based on sex, not gender, addressing male violence.
-
protections are not based on restricting women’s freedom such as single sex train carriages, as suggested by Jenny Gilruth MSP, Minister for Transport, or messages that women are responsible for their own safety.
